Our Challenge: Why now?
It’s all very well for the Haitians to need a reforestation program – but there has to be a compelling reason for companies, especially Western ones, to invest in such a project.
We all know climate change is a contentious issue but ultimately, political will to act is increasing. Examples of this are the Paris Agreement within the UNFCC, where for the first time the US and China agreed on a climate change mitigation path. The EU Emissions trading scheme has offset millions of tonnes of CO2 and greenhouse gas reduction programs are being implemented at state, national and international levels around the world. The upshot of this is the demand for carbon offsets is increases. There are many ways to offset CO2, one of which is to plant trees.
Haiti has low labour costs and plenty of land and a government that is committed to environmental restoration. This means OsierCarbon can provide quality (i.e. long term) carbon offsets at competitive prices to companies facing increasing regulatory pressure to do so.
